                      2/1/09   Update below 2/14/09
While working at NorCal Equine Rescue several days ago Claire received a call from Anita the producer at NPR ( National Public Radio). As Anita visited her family around the holidays in the Bay area of CA, she saw a TV broadcast of the euthanasia clinic that NorCal was starting and the piece about a woman who had to give up her horses. Anita wanted to speak to the person who knew about the situation. Claire began to tell her that she was the one who hanlded the call and that a donor called in to offer to support her horses for the rest of their lives so that Diane could have them back. Claire told her, "I was the one who organized a reunion with the woman and her horse." Being and animal lover, this touched Anita's heart deeply and said she was on the verge of tears and had to hear more. Today was Claire's second phone interveiw with Anita and Anita heard more. It, again, went very well. Claire said it felt as if she were talking to a friend. Claire and Diane (who was forced to give up her horses) and the donor, Cheryl (who is supporting Quervo,Diane's horse) will be taping an interveiw this Friday! They will be talking about the economy and how it has effected all their lives.

Claire and Ron have been effected by the economic crisis because Ron is a contractor. There is no money being spent on building anywhere. Ron went from having a higher salaried position, able to support his wife and kids and the ranch to looking for work again. He is a general contractor who knows how to do almost anything. But with this crisis no one is wanting to spend the money for any kind of improvements or construction. They have faith that the work that he is getting, hauling horses now and again, will increase and know that God will take care of them yet again. As Claire and Ron have said many times, "These souls are here for a reason and God would not have entrusted us with them if He didn't plan on caring for them." Claire has known from a young age that she was here to help animals and Ron has grown to enjoy and even embrace the idea and all of his "family." We thank you all for your prayers and support!

                2/14/09  HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!
UPDATE: Claire and Diane and Cheryl (Cheryl in another studia in southern CA) had their interview with NPR for a program called "The Story." It went well but Claire said that it was not as easy as talking with the producer in earlier phone conversations. She said, "I am not use to being the center of attention when I am not the one to initiate it!" She also said she wished she would have said so much more. So many animals are suffering due to the economy and Critter Pass Ranch has seen it first hand. As Ron and Claire are in the midst of this crisis and struggling themselves, the interview reminded Claire that along with the tragedy, we also see miracles such as was talked about in this interview. We will keep you up-to-date as to the airing of this program so you can share in this bit of joy that humanity is still capable of amidst the crisis we are now experiencing.

Diane, you are a natural!                       Here, Claire is interveiwed

Since Ron has been out of construction jobs he has acquired some transporting jobs. One of which was delivering Pinky the donkey to her new mommy. She sure is a cute little girl! She arrived safe and sound and has a beautiful new home and loving family! Congrats to Pinky and her new family! We know it was a match meant to be!
Pinky came from a donkey rescue called "Long Ears For Fun." Here were some of the residents who greeted Ron as he visited the ranch. Look at those cute noses!! We here at CPR love long ears too!
Ron was called to pick up some horses in WA state. This was a long trip but we were glad to have been able to help these horses and their people out.
Here are Comet, Paaso, and Lacy ready to be unloaded into Ron's trailer. They will be temporarily homed at Critter Pass Ranch until there is room for them at NorCal. But they are such sweet souls, we may have a difficult time giving them up! Their mommy calls several times a week to see how they are and that is one thing that really makes us feel great! They are so loved, still. These lovely people made sure that these guys were going to a reputable place. They contacted as many people as possible to make sure that NorCal would care for them properly and find them good homes. Thank you for caring so much! You are truly a blessing to this world and the horses that you have cared for and loved!
Here Comet is being unloaded as his "mom and dad" say a very emotional goodbye. You see, they are unable to care for so many horses any longer as they are experiencing medical problems which is making it more difficult to care for their babies. They are making the decision to re-home these special souls so that someone else can enjoy them as they have all their lives.
Here Paaso is unloaded.
The last goodbye is said to Paaso and the others. It was an emotional day and Claire says her heart has been hurting for them ever since she received the call for help. Claire and Ron would love to keep these 3 horses if only they could have sponsorship. If you are interested in sponsoring one or more of these horses (or anyone else at the ranch) on a monthly basis please let us know. Mom and Dad of these horses have asked us to keep them at our ranch but with the effect that the economy has had on them personally it is very difficult to make any promises. But we would LOVE to give these kind people reassurance that they will stay here and be happy and healthy horses for the rest of their lives. Anything helps!
Thank you all for your support!
We could not help the voiceless without you!
What a wonderful feeling we had when we could make someone's dream a reality! She never expected it and THAT was the blessing!
Cheryl, thank you for your efforts to contact us and make this all a reality for Diane and Quervo! You truly are a blessing!!
